I Believe In // Small Traditions

One of my favorite parts about being married is it gave me an excuse (not that I really needed one) to create small traditions to make days of the week or different holidays feel extra special. While I am just as excited as any 6 year old kid for the approaching holidays, it's also been fun to partake in little traditions along the way. Recently, I have made it a habit of making a different type of soup for dinner every Sunday - now referred to as Soup Sunday. On Sundays we also always get Starbucks before church and most of the times a little baking occurs. As I'm typing this I'm realizing Sunday is apparently just one big tradition.

This weekend at one of my dear friend's bachelorette party, I'm excited to partake in a little tradition another dear friend and I started at my bachelorette party - a Saturday morning bachelorette run. It's the little things, right?
I'd love to know, what are some of your small traditions?

Wanderlust Wednesday // Los Angeles

The thought of traveling of Los Angeles brings two words to my mind: glamorous & overwhelming. I've never been, but visiting a city that seems to be built on fame, excess and luxury seems rather fabulous, even if just staying a few nights. For the same reasons that Los Angelesis attractive, the thought of packing seems exhausting - what the heck do you wear in such a city?

My mind immediately went to glammed-up basics, with a little punch of the unexpected for night. I love the thought of pairing a casual varsity-inspired dress with a extra-girly clutch and some simple black booties. I'd love to know, what would be in your suitcase for LA?

If you more inspiration on how to rock basics and still look fabulous and fashion forward, check out one of my faves Damsel in Dior - she's pretty fab.

Vested Interest

1(vegan) leather / 2 winter white  / 3 (faux) fur / 4 shearling / 5 menswear / 6 denim

This past weekend, I was outside for a little football tailgating and watching, and had an epiphany that a few vests would do my fall/winter wardrobe some good.

It seems like a there is a vest for any occasion - from fur to leather, they can be styled for a casual weekend errands or to add some punch to your everyday workwear (see above). I threw together some of my favorite options, but if you're looking for more I also love these picks: red leatherfrilly menswearcamo, & utility. I think I'm going to start my collection with a little fur, what about you? How are you wearing vests this fall?

Print Mix Volume II

As first documented here, I am a huge fan of mixing prints. I decided to take this philosophy to the office a few weeks ago and paired one of my favorite floral t-shirts with some polka dots. It was a fun way to jazz up a Monday, even if it came at the expense of a few stares - that's how you know it's working right? (or at least that's what I tell myself)

ray-ban aviators / favorite red lipstick / jeweled circle necklace (on sale!) / old zara top, love this option / old j.crew factory skirt, similar / nude heels / burgundy bowler handbag

I Believe In // Sunday Baking

I feel like there is just something special about Sundays - they seem more relaxed then any other day of the week, even with the impending Monday workday not far behind. The last few weeks, I've gotten into the habit of baking a little something-something on Sunday. It's been a fun way to test out new recipes and satisfies my sweet tooth the rest of the week. Only downside - I've picked up the habit of enjoying the baked goods with my tea in the morning. Not healthy, but so good.

Some recent favorites have been these pumpkin chocolate chip cookieszucchini, carrot & oatmeal muffins, and pumpkin muffins (gluten free!). Dying to try this recipe for pumpkin chocolate carmel bark - clearly I have a bit of an obsession with pumpkin right now.

Any recipes I should try this weekend?

Wanderlust Wednesday // Montreal

I've only been to Canada once - I was nine and went to Niagara Falls for the day during a trip to New York with family. I remember being enamored by the crashing water and the fact that, for the first time, I was in another country.

Sadly, I haven't been back since but would love to explore all that Canada has to offer. I'd think I would start with Montreal, it seems so charming and beautiful. Maybe I'd even pick up a little french, no?

Ever been to Montreal? What about other cities in Canada?

An Ode to Trays

one / two / three / four / five / six
Ahh trays. How I love thee. In my opinion, they're a must-have accessory for the home. Not only are they stylish, ranging in a variety of shapes, sizes and patterns, but are so dang practical. Need something to jazz up your bar area? Want to corral  jewelry? Display your books & knickknacks? A functional way to access bathroom accessories? Check, check, and double check.

This isn't an all-talk and no action post either - in our 900 square ft. apartment I have a total of six trays.  Excessive? some may say yes, I obviously say no. I am tray-liever.

Anyone else lovin' trays? How do you use yours? PS- check out this post for styling tips!

White Out

The last time I wore head to toe white I was eighteen, in highschool, and participating in the ever important "white-out", bringing fear on all opponents that entered our gymnasium.

Needless to say, I was excited that this concept actually became a trend outside of a t-shirt & shorts and have been wanting to try it out myself. Colder weather brought a closet switch-up and I got to rediscover one of my favorite sweaters - the perfect top for an all-white look. How are you feeling about white-on-white? What ways are you wearing the trend?

I Believe In // Snail Mail

I am the first person to admit I love technology - it's super convenient and puts anything I could ever want at my fingertips. Long gone are the days when I have to call someone's house phone or wait for them to magically appear on AIM to make plans (remember that?!). And to top it off, group messages are in my opinion one of the best inventions - endless entertainment.

As much as I'm a fan of technology, there are few things better then receiving a handwritten note or card in the mail. They are like little mailbox treasures, amongst all of the bills and junk. And to me, what makes them so precious is knowing the person took time to sit down and write it - it's so easy to shoot off a quick text, but writing a letter takes considerable more time and thought. I was reminded of  this yesterday when I received a letter from a dear friend in Oregon, and have been thinking since of who I can send some love to via snail mail.

Wanderlust Wednesday // Chicago

About a year ago at this time, my best friends surprised me with a bachelorette trip to Chicago. It rained the entire weekend, but was still amazing - I honestly have the world's most fabulous friends and was spoiled all weekend.

Naturally, I am craving a trip to explore even more of the city. Fall sounds like such a wonderful time to experience one of the best cities in the midwest, although I wouldn't mind waiting until St. Patrick's Day either.

Get Your Shop On

Ever since I started reading blogs three years ago, I have discovered so many new sites - great for my closet, bad for the bank account.

Recently, I have stumbled across a lot of new to me shops that I'd thought I'd share! Have you heard of any of these? Any new sites you've discovered? I'd love to know!

Shop Frankie's - started by Nicole of Frankie Hearts Fashion, her shop is the embodiment of her chic, relaxed LA style - even better, the prices are so good! This open-back sweater would be perfect for the chilly Ohio fall - also digging this flippy aztec skirt.

Ruche - I think I'm late to the game on this one, but still had to share! Ruche is a vintage inspired store - think Modcloth, but in my opinion a little less harsh on the vintage side. Wouldn't mind adding this versatile striped dress or fun floral pants to my closet.

ShopGrl - I am in serious love with everything on this site. It's run by three sisters, one of which is the stylist for the Olsens, so you know it's good. This metallic sweater is number one on my shopping list, and wouldn't mind snagging this winter white dress with it. While your at it, check out Something Navy, just trust me.

Social Dress Shop - Dresses are a girl's best friend - seriously any outfit where you only have to pick out one piece of clothing is a winner in my book. The site offers dresses at a variety of prices along with other great pieces. Got my eyes on this little white dress for the holidays.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Shirt

Okay, so this shirt hasn't exactly been passed around and magically been the backdrop of amazing experiences for all of my friends - good movie, high on the unrealistic scale.

I do however, consider this shirt magical because seems to work with just about any outfit - dressed up, dressed down, for work, for weekends - you name it (still have yet to test out the PJ wear). It's the shirt I reach for when I don't want to think about what I'm wearing - hence these pictures - it was the weekend, sometimes less thinking is involved.

borrowed from the husband ny mets hat, find one here / old j.crew shirt/ old banana republic jeans, great option from old navy / justfab urbanite bag / target leopard loafers

I Believe In // Reading

On Sunday night, for the first time it was feels like weeks, I put my computer away and ended the evening with a little R&R - relaxing and reading. Let me tell you, it was a beautiful thing. As much as I love online browsing, catching up on blogs and making sure I don't miss anything on pinterest, I don't necessarily find it relaxing.

Last Sunday made me realize just how important spending time with my nose in a book can be, and I'm making a point to work more reading time into my week. Right now I'm reading Middlesex, with Lovely Bones & Lean In at the top of my list for next in line. Does anyone else find reading as relaxing? Any books I should add to my list?

Wanderlust Wednesday// Philadelphia

navy blazer / knit beanie / tortoise eyeglasses / open stitch crew sweater /  emerald cross body / bubblegum swing skirt / dot tights / leopard flats / skylar ankle bootie

I still haven't gotten over my craving to head east this fall and explore America's historic cities. Although we don't have immediate travel plans in our future, I'd love to add Philadelphia to our must-visit list. I've been to the city of brotherly love once for a solid 24 hours - meaning I didn't see or do anything.

For a second trip, I'd throw on bright, rich colors with some cozy knits (the east cost brings out the prep in my step) to explore Independence Hall, visit the Liberty Bell, reenact the famous Rocky-stairs scene, and stuff my face with a philly cheesesteak. I also wouldn't mind following this list of "must-do's"- free is always better.

Any travel plans this fall? Where are you headed?!

A Weakness for Wallets

classic / studded / leopard / tribal / animal / mini / geometric

When I was in elementary & middle school, the best time of year was shopping for a new backpack. I considered it serious business, analyzing all the different options. Year after year, I always seemed to end up with the one that had the most hidden compartments and pockets.

Fast forward to today, and I think that passion has been channeled into a love for wallets. Even though it's been a few years since I've purchased a new one, they are my favorite accessory to look at - I love unzipping them - and in similar fashion - seeing all of their hidden compartments. Here is a round-up of of some of my current favorite options. I tend to lean more towards a classic shape and print, but also love the geometric, tribal and leather options. Which one is your favorite?

The Perfect Fall Day

Yesterday was one of those days I want to make sure is seared in my memory, it was pretty close to perfect. The Monday morning alarm is not something I'm real amped about any week, but yesterday made coping with the reality of today a little harder then normal. The Sunday agenda was this: church, Starbucks, pumpkin patch, lazy afternoon at home, homemade soup for dinner & internet browsing with NFL in the background for a nightcap.

Since the day started off rainy & gloomy, it was the perfect excuse to break out the trusty hunters for the pumpkin patch - paired with some comfortable favorites. The day turned out to be a hotter then expected and therefore this sweater didn't seem as weather appropriate by 2pm - it's full disclosure here people. How did you spend your weekend? I'd love to know!

old vest, similar (on major sale!) at Macy's / embellished sweater from nordstrom rack, similar from mango /j.crew chino shorts / hunter rain boots (got mine off ebay!) / fossil rose gold watch

I Believe In // Mini Trips

As much as I love dreaming about traveling and planning trips, I'm also quite the homebody. After a busy week with many nights jammed packed, frequently I just want to stay home and put my life back together (drama intended).

Over the past few weeks, my husband and I have found ourselves taking one day trips, mostly to see some of our favorite bands live. I found this to be the perfect compromise - satisfying my craving to explore new cities and spend time relaxing at home. This Saturday, we're headed to Indianapolis with one of my best friends to see The Lumineers and I'm equally excited to dance and sing along to one of my favorite bands as I am to relax at home Friday night.

What are your weekend plans? Any trips on the radar?

Wanderlust Wednesday // Napa Valley

Confession- I know absolutely nothing about wine (gasp!). Two points of proof - 1) at a wine tasting this summer a friend and I literally went to every vendor and asked for their sweetest wine 2) I don't even like red wine, which apparently all serious drinkers do.

If you're embarrassed or ashamed on my behalf don't be - I know I'm a wine joke, and as I like to say, self awareness is half the battle. Although Napa Valley may not be your first  thought for travel knowing my extensive expertise, I can't think of a better place to buff up my knowledge and palate. Plus, I can't think of a more perfect destination for the fall, sipping wine in the crisp air.

Are you a wine connoisseur or a novice like me? Any good recommendations?!

Get the Look: Dressed-Up Sweats

I could kiss whoever made this trend popular. Ladies of the world, rejoice! - a fashion statement that is actually comfortable!

The more I browse online or look at street style, the more I am drawn to pairing sweatshirts with just about everything. They are so versatile, able to be dressed-up or down, and there is no shortage of options - from floral to graphic prints to leather. This fall & winter season, I plan on stocking up on a few different styles to wear with leather  or a full girly skirt for an unexpected look, or keeping it simple with boyfriend jeans and chucks.

Are you rocking the sweatshirt trend this year? If so, how are you wearing yours?!
